Director's Statement
Connect with Sydney
The Family Key is my senior thesis film and my directorial debut. It is a super special project and culmination of my four years in college. The film was actually inspired by the locations. The entire film was shot in my childhood home and the cemetery location is just up the street. They are two places I have always wanted to film in, and my house is where I have been imagining and creating stories since I was a child. While the storyline is not directly pulled from my life, I can relate to losing a loved one and the familial shifts that can occur afterwards. I think many people have experienced similar situations and I wanted to express these sentiments and show what good can come from communicating how you truly feel.
